Mount Rushmore & Yellowstone National Park

After departing from the Badlands we ended up at Mount Rushmore and spent the next twenty minutes admiring the work of Gutzon Borglum. I’m almost embarrassed to admit this but it’s whatever because it’s true. I went up to a complete stranger and giggled as I asked who the other two heads were because I must’ve been absent that day in school. I knew it was George Washington and Abe Lincoln but the other two I didn’t have a clue. He told me (also with a giggle) Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt, and now I know.

After spending the night in a Walmart parking lot we woke up in Gillette, Wyoming with Yellowstone on the brain. We took the buffalo scenic root and landed at the visitor center where we were able to shower and do laundry. We didn’t have a reservation as this trip was all about riding the current and being in the flow, and to be honest it just wasn’t something we thought about. When it was our turn to speak with the ranger Amber showed me her phone and it read 4:44. My immediate response was…

Get ready to see some magic.

After the first attempt at a campground being full, the next one had one spot left, and it was ours. One spot in the entire park which consisted of maybe a dozen campgrounds (and roughly 2,000 spots) there was one spot left and it now had our name on it. I don’t know what you call it but I call it magic. That morning I received and angel message from Truth Well Told Tarot titled Pennies from Heaven and wouldn’t you know it, later that afternoon I found a penny and a dime. I call that magic too.

Yellowstone was the first chance I was able to experience the true magnificence of the night sky. I was taken aback when I saw how many stars lit it up, there was too many to count and it didn’t take long before my neck started to kink from staring at it so long. I couldn’t even locate the Pleiades because there were so many stars. It was mesmerizing and it took my breath away. We spent a better part of the following day cruising around Yellowstone and witnessing old faithful do her thang. Ber was able to get in Girdy (her outdoor wheelchair) for the first time and it was great to see her in action.

Yellowstone was nothing short of beautiful but I have to say that Cranky Frank stole the show. Nothing says love like a puppy dog. I don’t know about you but I’m all about some free puppy breath therapy. He was five months old, barely bigger than my shoe and stole my heart the instant we locked eyes.

After spending a better part of the day roaming around Yellowstone National Park it was onward westward to our next destination which was Idaho to meet up with one of Amber’s high school buddies. New York…check, Michigan…check, Wisconsin…check, Minnesota (dontcha know)…done, South Dakota…check, and now Wyoming…check.
