Utah: Switchback Road & Blanding

Utah has to be the most underrated state, I had no idea how absolutely beautiful it was until I had the opportunity to cruise around it. I had only known the stretch from St. George to Colorado having traveled it many a times going to and fro when I lived in and around the Rocky Mountains. The little stretch is a wee bit meh, except for Beaver of course, gotta love Beaver. For the next couple days Amber and I spent our time discovering not only the beauty of this state but the excitement as well.

Moki Dugway for the gold, this switchback road was crazy. It reminded me of those roads you see in movies where they’re driving their trucks just barely teetering through a tiny mountain road and it’s looks like they’re gonna go off the cliff. That’s a little dramatic but it was definitely a white knuckle, butt puckering, confidence building stretch of about 17 miles with a spectacular view from the top.

It just so happened to be my turn at the wheel when we reached the switchback. Having no idea what we were in for or that it was even there we dove right in and up and all I could say along the way was I had no idea this trip was gonna be a confidence booster too. And that it was cause I handled it like a champ.

When we got to the top we were pleasantly surprised that it magically turned into a paved two-lane road and I remember Amber noticing the gas light and being concerned. I told her don’t be silly, Spirit’s not gonna let us run outta gas and shortly thereafter we crossed paths with a bicyclist who told us we were about thirty minutes from a gas station. We stopped at the Natural Bridges Monument but opted out, it was either drive through there or go get petro so the decision pretty much made itself.

I had never seen a makeshift traffic light, they’re so cute. After gas we stopped for dinner at a local hole in the wall diner in the tiny town of Blanding because diners, drive-ins and dives are the best. There were so many angel numbers it made me all warm and fuzzy, not to mention I had the best grilled cheese sandwich and even better onion rings. Hands down the best onion rings I’ve ever had. The price was right, budget baby, everything was amazing. My OG journey song haha by Journey, ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, even played while we were nourishing our beautiful bodies, thank you Spirit.

When we pulled up on the makeshift light it was red at first, they’re on timers. I took a picture of it when it was red initially but then waited for the green because green means go and then this song popped up in my music and it just made sense.

The angel number when I went to look up the song. I love it. Spirit’s got me.
