We took the Lake Express Ferry from Michigan to Wisconsin because it sounded fun and shaved some hours off our travel time. Needless to say it was quite windy. Two and half hours across Michigan Lake at a rate of 40 mph for $404 which is a wee bit pricey but worth it in the long run I suppose. It was just before boarding when we received another classic one-liner. Before driving onto the ferry we were greeted by an older gentleman who was asking routine questions and preparing us for our journey across Michigan Lake.
Is there anything explosive in this van other than your personalities?
We all got a pretty good laugh as he checked our engine and went over some of the rules and regs. It brought us into Milwaukee, Wisconsin where we were greeted by some lightning and light showers. We drove for a better part of the day and spent the night at another Cracker Barrel. There was a song playing as I went in to brush my teeth and the only lyrics I heard I’m gonna say were meant specifically for me to hear.
I believe in destiny, I believe in fate.
I believe that happiness is something we create.
Two nights in a row I couldn’t help but notice a white spider hangin’ outside the driver side window. The first night caught my attention as I was putting the hand crafted privacy shades in the window, that’s when I noticed it.
What struck me as odd was it was almost as if I blinked and when I did I looked and saw it now on the drivers side of the windshield. When I blinked again it had traveled all the way to the passenger side. I don’t know if I felt like I was seeing things but I remember thinking it odd how fast it moved and every time I blinked it had changed positions.
I’m no stranger to finding insects sent by Spirit to bring me messages and when I saw the white spider I knew there was more than meets the eye, especially seeing it for the second time in a completely different state. I’ve come to understand that spiders represent a few things with creation being the one that resonates the most these days. It is after all, in my opinion, the rise of the feminine energy with creation at its core. It wasn’t long before I grabbed my phone to look up the spiritual meaning of white spiders.
Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery was next on the docket, home of the worlds best cheese curds. And let me tell ya, the soft serve didn’t disappoint either, it had to be the best vanilla ice cream I’ve ever had. In fact, we drove an hour and a half out of our way just to try these cheese curds, and the soft serve was an added bonus. It was here that the next one-liner made it’s appearance.
After trying different flavors we boiled it down to plain and pizza flavored and after thinking about the size of our cooler I said to Amber that I vote we only get one package of curds. And in this tiny little voice, her inner child if you will, along with big puppy dog eyes, she looks up at me and asks…
Can we vote pizza?
I laughed so hard because in that moment it was the cutest thing I’d ever seen and heard. Of course we can vote pizza I said and that was that. Let’s not forget the little Jesus that also made an appearance and had me laughing as he was hiding in the hot sauce. After enjoying the best ice cream on the planet we continued onward with our trip stopping for the night in Minnesota, ‘dontcha know’.

Lake Byllesby Campgrounds where we were greeted by super Pete as he called himself who turned out to be one of the nicest and wittiest guys we encountered thus far. He also blessed us with our next one-liner that I’m gonna vote takes the cake for all of ’em. It was good and he was quick. After telling him that Ber was from New York and I was from California he comes back with…
Do you have some kind of warning system for people?
It was a great question. He was very accommodating and we sure did appreciate his friendliness and hospitality, not to mention his fantastic sense of humor. That evening we also experienced some awesome thunder and lightning. The next morning we hit the road once again with South Dakota in our GPS. After driving all day we found ourselves at the Badlands KOA. If you ask me the Badlands look similar to the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, and cool nonetheless.
